Newborn preparation guide

Newborn preparation guide

Here is a list I have created to help achieve the best of your newborn session. Sessions are held during their first 2 weeks of life, this is to help your little one stay asleep and curl up for poses as they did in your tummy.

  1. Newborns are easiest to pose when they are asleep. Please feed your newborn before you leave for your session to ensure they have a full belly. If your baby is bottle fed, please bring extra bottles to keep your little one full during their session. Breastfeeding and pumping is always allowed!
  2. Dress your little one in a zipper or gown and keep the diaper on loose around the legs just before leaving for your session. This will help with keeping them relaxed while undressing them and help diaper lines from appearing.
  3. Please bring a pacifier even if you aren't using one. We will be waking them up often to reposition and this will help soothe them without breaking to feed or overfeed.
  4. Dress appropriately for your session. I recommend plain colors, no logos or strong patterns. Outfits can make or break how a photographs appears. Please dress for the style session you would like. I can help guide your family during the consultation.
  5. I provide all props, wraps and outfits for your little one. If you are bringing an item for photographs please let me know so I can fit it in ahead of time.
  6. Please bring extra diapers/wipes/burp clothes.
  7. Plan on your newborn session taking 1-3 hours. You may need to bring some snacks/water/ breast pump you are more than welcome, please be comfortable!
  8. If you have toddlers joining the session for a studio set up, I recommend letting me take your family photographs first and then your partner or a family member can take them to a park while we finish your newborns photographs.
  9. I do keep a warmer on the baby so the studio may be a bit warm.
  10. Don't stress! It will all work out and at the end of the day I have learned that baby runs the show and we will work around what they need to be comfortable and happy.

A sleepy baby is a happy baby. Zzzzzz...
